Compact Embedded 2013 install failed RRS feed

  • Question

  • The download looks like it finished ok. The layout appeared to expand all the downloaded files but immediately
afterwards I get an error messege:

An error occurred that prevented the installation of Windows@ Embedded Compact 2013 from finishing successfully.

    Location of offline layout:

    c:\Users\Randy\AppData\Local\Temp\Layout\Windows Embedded Compact 2013\

  • Try Downloading again without creating the Offline Layout.

Try at different time also see if Anti virus is creating the issue or the download link/speed.

  • Hi Randy,Along with not using the offline layout, try running the installer as ADMIN. This installer has some user config that may be blocked.

  • I ran the online install version and as well as the off line
version. Both fail to install correctly. I am the administrator
of this (Windows 7) machine. Visual Studio 2012 and 2013
are both installed on this machine.

I tried with the anti virus turned off also.

This is the error messege I am getting:

An error occurred that prevented the installation of
Windows Embedded Compact 2013 from finishing successfully.

    Any more ideas ?

    Randy

  • Hi Randy,

Which version of VS has App builder applied? That will be the version of VS that Compact 2013 will be targeting. You might try repairing that install or if you have it installed on VS 2012, uninstall and install to VS2013.

Also, I believe there is a message that asks if you want updates installed while doing the install. Try saying no to that as it simplifies the install and you can apply updates after.

    Sincerely,
