Replication and Rowversion Timestamps RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to setup a Transactional Replication between two SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise servers. The database has many tables that have a rowversion timestamp column and I'm getting errors when it hits one obviously.

Is there an easy way to eliminate them all at once? rather than going through each individual article to exclude them?

  • To drop columns from existing publication and drop the column from the table at the publisher you can execute ALTER TABLE <table> DROP <column> syntax at the Publisher.  If @replicate_ddl is set to true then the schema change will automatically be propagated to Subscribers on the next synchronization.

To drop columns from an existing publication but retain the column in the table at the publisher you can use sp_articlecolumn or sp_mergearticlecolumn.

This is covered in the section Dropping Columns in Make Schema Changes on Publication Databases.

  • You can actually convert the time stamps to binary at the time of setup , during the window or subscriber settings in article properties window.
