avi capture with media foundation RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just got the folowing tutorial to run without any issues:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff819477(v=VS.85).aspx

But I have a couple of questions:

    1) is it possible to save the video capture to an .avi file?

    2) is it possible to save the video as a uncompressed quicktime file?

    3) is this the best way to do a video capture?

    4) is it possible to implement audio capture in a similar manner?

    Thanks

  • (1) There is no AVI writing support native in Media Foundation.  You would either need to find an AVI media sink somewhere or write your own.

    (2) MF supports writing MPEG4 files, which through the .mov extension is one of the formats supported by quicktime.  MF does not support other quicktime formats.

    (3) The sink writer provides a quick and easy way to do video capture.  As long as you do not need to insert effects or do other advanced things, it is likely the best way.  The tutorial you linked did not include any of the source side of video capture, I do not know if you were looking at a different tutorial for that.

    (4) Audio capture is done the same way, but with audio media types.
