Visual Studio 2015 - Help files of offline installations

    Question

  • We have several offline users that would like to have an official copy of the documentation for Visual Studio 2015 but I can't find the files anywhere. Can someone please point me to where I can download an official (from Microsoft not a 3rd party, my company has restrictions on this) copy of the documentation for me to install on these machines.

  • Hi Pat E. Jones,

Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.

Do you mean that you want a offline installer of VS 2015?

If so, I strongly recommend you download the ISO image or use the /layout switch to download all the install package source file.

VS 2015 iso Microsoft official download link:

    https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/downloads/download-visual-studio-vs.aspx

VS 2015 iso files SHA-1 Values link:

    https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/downloads/visual-studio-2015-iso-sha1-vs.aspx

PS: To make sure whether your package is corrupted or not,

please use FCIV.exe http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841290  to verify hash of the ISO.

In addition, here is a link of detailed steps using /layout command, you may refer to it:

  • I already did that and have a offline VS 2015 install that is working the problem is there are no help files. I need to get the help files to install on those offline machines but I can't find them anywhere.

  • Hi Pat,

Do you mean that you need to the Help Viewer documentation?

Usually, they are saved at the following location:

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\HelpLibrary2\Catalogs\VisualStudio14

  • I checked and the folders under there are empty. With Visual Studio 2013 there was a helpcontentsetup.msha file that I needed to point to and then click add for all the packages I wanted to install. Isn't there something like that for Visual Studio 2015? Where is this file and the packages that go with it?

  • The files are not there. Where can I find them?

  • I looked there and there are no files there.

With Visual Studio 2013 we were able to download a documentation folder that contained a helpcontentsetup.msha file in it and a Package folder under there that had all the CAB files for the different documentation books. I don't see anything like that in Visual Studio 2015.

Where can I find these files so that my offline users have access to the documentation on how to use Visual Studio?
