    Hello.

    I am attempting to run Update-Database in the Visual Studio Package manager console in order to create an .mdf in my solution.

    When I run the command I am receiving these errors:

     Update-Database -verbose

    The SQL Server Instance appears to allow remote connections.

    I should also mention that this is a virtual machine that I created in Azure.

    The connection string looks like this:

    1. Check SQL server(MSSQLServer) service is running on server machine and can be connect from your client machine.

    2. Open Start -> Microsoft SQL Server (2008 / 2012) -> Configuration Tools -> Right Click on SQL Server Configuration Manager and select run as Administrator

        It opens a new window click on SQL Server Configuration Manager(Local)

                  SQL Native Client Configuration

                   Client protocols 

                 From Right pane of screen see TCP/IP and Named Pipes are enabled.
