Phone no longer displays Cellular connection icon when Cellular data is turned on. RRS feed

  • Question

  • My 8x no longer shows the "4G" icon when my data is turned on. The only way for me to know that the cellular data is on is for me to check the cellular settings.

That is correct your data connection icon will not show. This is due to the fact that you are connected to a wireless network. The Wi-Fi connection trumps your data connection to help keep your monthly limit for data provided by your cellular carrier to a minimum. If you disconnect from your wireless network or turn off Wi-Fi the "4G" or "LTE" or "3G" icon will appear next to your cellular service bars. If you still are not seeing anything then check that your cellular connection is on.

    Hope that helps!

  • Ok that helps. Someone else mentioned this to me. So if wifi and data are on, and I am actively connected to a wireless network, the phone will prioritize that connection and not download on 4G.

I like that. However, I do miss the 4G icon telling me when 4G was on even when wifi was on, since having the 4G radio on kills battery. Also, there needs to be a data toggle in the action center.

Blake has the correct information.  The Wifi status does take a higher priority.  If you pull down the notification center though, it will list your network and the data connection there right below the cellular/wifi network.

It is quicker then going to the cellular settings section.
