Can I use Visual Studio 2012 premium to develop apps for Windows 8?

    Question

  • I'm currently using Windows 7 with an installation of Visual Studio 2012 Premium. I've noticed that when creating new projects, I have no options for selecting and creating Windows Store / Windows 8 applications.

Will this change if I install Visual Studio 2012 Premium on a machine running Windows 8, or do I HAVE to use the Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows 8 and the other tools referred to here?

  • There is a feature chart here:

It looks like Preium with MSDN supports Windows Store App development when installed on Windows 8 OS.

  • I'll admit, I had to go look it up to be sure Premium did include Windows Store Apps :) Good thing there is a chart.
