Windows drivers signing details RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    1. What systems should test be performed in order the driver be able sign-able on all systems including windows 8 and 8.1
    2. Should drivers be posted signed or unsigned (I mean drivers not package)?
    3. What will be the result? What will Microsoft do with drivers? How long Microsoft signing will last? For one year or forever?
    4. Should I run also "USB printing support test" in WHQL as well?

    Thanks in advance!

  • It sounds like you are asking about WHQL signing, remember you can in some instances self sign the driver, and in others you want a Windows Logo (or WHQL) signing.   Since you are asking about WHQL signing be aware there is a forum just for that subject http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsdesktop/en-us/home?forum=whck

On your questions and assuming WHQL signing:

    1.  You need to run the tests on all systems you want a Windows logo for.

    2.  The drivers are packaged, and sent to Microsoft, they will do the signing.

    3.  The package is signed forever, but remember if you change anything you need to resubmit the package.

    4.  You haven't said what the package is, go to the WHQL website http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/gg463010.aspx and check there.
