Database Model for an synch enabled Inventory System which has number of retails outlets and warehouse. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Please share if you got some idea about the synch enabled inventory system
which I am describing. Need a Database Model for an synch enabled Inventory
System which has number of retails outlets and warehouse. PDA device data
need to be synched with Central Database in two ways. Retails outlets will
enter sales and returned products. Warehouse will to have the same feature.

Please share your best practices/tips followed for modeling synch enabled
    inventory system.

    Using : SQL Server 2008, asp.NET 3.5, Windows Mobile 6.5 SDK, Synch
    Framework 2.0

  • Hmm, how widespread will the different outlets be.  And, will there be product at the retail outlets?  Or simply placing orders?  This is a pretty big question for a forum. THere are lots of different tools available, particularly peer to peer and/or merge replication, that can be considered, but a lot will determine on how close you need to maintain inventory. If you need to run close on inventory, it could be more difficult than if you can keep safe amounts of inventory in the outlets and can be sync'ed daily...

Can you share more of your requirements and initial thoughts on a design?

  • Thanks for your reply.

I believe the system will be working max of 10 retail outlets and two warehouses. It is more to do with retail outlets (Point of Sale).
Purchase and material movement happens @ warehouse. So I need a model to enable synch between database either daily or at least twice a day.

I need some tips to design Synch enabled DB model.

Relationship  between tables like Invoice & InvoiceLineItem:
Additional columns required for synch operation for safe execution even though synch tool has their own tracking tables.
