Unable to access boot menu/Developer preview

    Question

  • Hi

I installed windows 8 today to my PC with Windows 7 already installed. Later, I booted to Windows 7, and rebooted. Then it loads like normally, but few seconds later, it shows blue screen with "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" and reboots. I'm unable to access boot menu, I can boot 7 from my 8 install usb stick, but I have to do that every time. What to do?

  • Run Chkdsk /f /r to detect and repair disk errors. Restart the system before the disk scan begins on a system partition. If the hard disk is SCSI, check for problems between the SCSI controller and the disk. Since you are able to access windows 7 from your install disk, see if you can check the System Log in Event Viewer for additional error messages that might help pinpoint error. What errors do you see?

  • I reinstalled 8 today, now it's working and I can boot both, but I remembered that I installed Avast to 8, although it warned me about compatibility problems. Could that be the problem?

  • Not exactly sure what the issue was, but glad it's working for you now!
