HTML Client - Global.asax, WebAPI controller and ASP.NET Configuration Manager RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

This one is driving me crazy:

I'm following Beth's article on WebAPI and permissons. I'm using ASP.NET membership with forms authentication. ASP.NET Configuration Manager is the tool I use for user and role membership management.

Everything works fine until I add a Global Application Class to my lightswitch project (to add route mapping ...). Now ASP.NET membership security stops working and I get the following error in Configuration Manager:

There is a problem with your selected data store.  This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission.  It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled.  Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store.

The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Could not load type 'Global_asax'.

There is no special namespacing involved.

    Please help !!!

  • I finally decided to implement my own custom login mechanism:

    - login page is a lightswitch screen and always the first screen displayed

    - configure ASP.NET membership and call its API (e.g Membership.ValidateUser)

    - populate myapp.permissions (custom property) based on user roles (membership and lightswitch)

    - adjust UI based on myapp.permisions.

    So far so good.
