Cannot Bind to Directory Using DN RRS feed

I am absolutely stumped with this very frustrating problem:

The following DN bind throws an exception saying that the domain does not exist or could not be contacted:

    DirectoryEntry de = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://DC=maindomain,DC=com")

This FQDN bind works just fine:

    DirectoryEntry de = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://maindomain.com")

I have tested this against 2 different domains, one running 2000AD and one running 2003AD.  I cannot bind to either one using DN syntax.  What in the world am I doing wrong.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Nevermind.  I discovered the answer in Dunn & Kaplan's .NET Developers Guide literraly seconds after posting this ....was using a local system account to run the program instead of a domain account.  Big thanks to the authors for clearing this up.

    Thanks, \
