Discovering WiFi Camera in windows 8

    Question

  • I used to find the Wi-Fi Camera using bonjour Api in windows 7 machine.

    Do we have any built in mechanism to discover Wi-Fi camera in windows8.

    If Wi-Fi Device discovery is not available n Windows 8 than please suggest me the way to find out Wi-Fi devices in my case it is camera.

    I heard in this video about IP camera  but not sure whether it is for Wi-Fi device discovery.

    I haven't heard any talk about supporting Bonjour or Zeroconf. I would recommend that you contact the organization that maintais the API and encourage them to release developer components for Windows 8 and WinRT.

  • Hello Chris,

    AFAIK we don't support IP camera's out of the box. However you could theoretically write a UPNP driver for your camera and have it accessed via DLNA. This is a bit out of my depth and unfortunately I can't give you any more detail than this. If you are experienced with UPNP and DLNA let me know and I can do what I can to help. If the camera supports RTSP or a compatible form of HTTP streaming you could theoretically connect directly to the camera via the Media Engine. I think that the best way to go is to write a custom media sink and plug into the Media Engine. This will give you the control that you need and access to the raw network data. Check out the sample below for more information about writing a custom source and sink.
