database owner login and windows account questions RRS feed

  • Question

  • What happens if I disable the login of the database owner?

What happens if I disable the database owner's Windows account?

I will be running sp_changedbowner soon, but was curious as to the consequences of the above.

  • I'm pretty certain that nothing will happen. It is pretty common to set the onwer for all databases to "sa" (so not to tie the owner to an individual etc) and "sa" is commonly disabled. FYI, the "modern" way to change onwer is ALTER AUTHORIZATION, as in:

ALTER AUTHORIZATION ON DATABASE::dbname TO [loginname]
