VS2012 Kernel Debugging to WS2008 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    Here is my setup:

Host machine is a Win 7 machine running VS2012

Target machine is a WS2008 machine.

From what I can determine the WS2008 machine does not support Ethernet kernel debugging, but only serial, USB, or 1394 connections.

My VS2012 can perform kernel debugging by connecting to a Ethernet connection.

If I use a serial server to convert from serial to Ethernet cabling, could I put it between the two and hope to have the debugging session work?  Unfortunately, the two machines are not in the same room, so direct serial cabling isn't really possible.

    Any other suggestions?

    thx,

    Ken

  • Hi,

Visual Studio Diagnostics (Debugger, Profiler, IntelliTrace)forum mainly discusses Visual Studio debugger/Profiler/IntelliTrace issue. Kernel debugging is out of support range of this forum. In order to resolve your question as soon as possible, I suggest consulting your issue through opening a new thread on Windows Desktop debugging forum (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windbg/threads ) for better solution and support.

  • I will do as suggested, but since kernel debugging is being done through Visual Studio now and in the future releases, I believe your answer is a little short sighted.
