WPF vs Web/ASP.NET - which is the future? RRS feed

  • Question

  • As part of a large project with many client-apps my company is confrontated with the question which technolgy is more suitable.

There are several advantages using Web-technology such ase deployment, platform-independency, maintenance and of course the certainity that HTML5/JS will further developed in future. But there are also advantages using WPF such as more powerful framework and no browser-restrictions, which is from the point of a developer more convenient i think. But I read something about WPF that it is not Microsoft's future way to go, instead of Web (HTML5/JS) is.

The project will be developed about 4 years may be even more, so my company not want to develop with a technology which will be depricated when the project is finished.

So what are the plans from Microsoft with WPF in future? Will it go away in 5 or 10 years? On which technology Microsoft counts?

  • Hi S.Peter

In my opinion WPF is not future for Application weather it is Desktop App or Web App, Because WPF web app is not lightweight. so you have to choose Web App in ASP.NET or if you want more secure app , use ASP.NET MVC framework

    Thank Best Regards

  • It's a difficult question. But Wpf will have a long-ish life still. If you change the question to XAML or HTML then your lifespan for XAML becomes longer still.

IMO the horrible nature of browsers should not be underestimated in your choice.
