Migrate half of the resources to new server farm RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Due to capacity issues, we required to migrate half of our Exchange server to another server farm.

Currently, all of our Exchange was at same server farm we need to move half of them to new server farm. We have 2x DC, 2x hub, 2x cas, 2x edge & 2x MS. All server are in virtual machine. We are going to migrate 1xDC, 1x hub, 1x cas and 1x mailstore to new server farm. All Exchange was run on version exchange 2010 RTM.

We are aware that these is a quite challenges project.

We would like to know if somebody out there have any idea or has been involved in this kind of project. Can you share with us how these can be done?

Does anybody have idea for this approach? Welcome if you have any comments!

    Thanks!

  • What virtualization technology are you using?

  • Hi Oliver,

We are using OVM currently, we going to migrate it to Vmware. I doubt VMware have provide migration guide for OVM.

What would be the best practice to do this?

  • Hi ShiroBB

In regards to this migration as it isn't really an Exchange migration but rather a virtual machine migration I would heavily consult on your VMware technical support contract to see what is the best practice method for migrating an OVM virtual machine to VMware.

You may find third party tools will be needed.

    Oliver
