Is "<authentication mode="Windows"/>" needed? RRS feed

     Hi,

I am creating an Webapplication to work both in file system and IIS. My apllication has nested web.config files. "<authentication mode="Windows"/>" is enabled in both web.configs and throws error. I removed this line and works well in both location( file system and IIS).

I want to confirm whether it is really needed? Or any alternatives!

    Thanks.

Is it needed?  Only you can answer that.  Read up on ASP.NET authentication:

Then there will be no mode as far as ASP.NET is concerned and it will default to letting IIS handle it.
