Geocode Dataflow API - ConfidenceFilter.MinimumConfidence Default value RRS feed

  • Question

  • What is the default value used for ConfidenceFilter.MinimumConfidence if not otherwise specified?  We are setting it to 'Low' in the geocode request, but we never get back any 'Low' matches, only 'Medium' and 'High' (even when geocoding a file of 140,000 addresses).  Can you give an example of an address which would return 'Low' as a response confidence to help with our testing?  Thank you.

  • When you have a result that does not match, you can have low confidence result.

    Let say for example, that you want to geocode a small street (from OpenStreetMap or Map Maker) like in Marocco, in the city called Tata, the street "Rue Ohoud". You will have a low confidence result in USA as a result of a bad geocoding.

    Try this url with your own key and see that the first result is a low confidence result:

    http://dev.virtualearth.net/REST/v1/Locations/Maroc,Tata,Rue%20ohoud?key=YOURKEY&o=xml

  • Thanks for your response.  I have put the address through the Geocode Dataflow API and get a different result to you.  The downloaded Success file contains a medium confidence match (which looks good):

    284261|en-US||Rue Ohoud||Maroc|||Tata||||Rue Ohoud||Morocco||Rue Ohoud, Salé, Morocco|Salé|||||34.0322998046875|-6.8106638590494795|Medium|Rue Ohoud, Salé, Morocco|RoadBlock|Success|||

    As you can see, this was uploaded with no GeocodeRequest.ConfidenceFilter.MinimumConfidence (i.e. 12th item in list is empty).

    However, if I submit the same request but specifying the MinimumConfidence, then I just get a Failed file back with the following entry:

    284261|en-US||Rue Ohoud||Maroc|||Tata|||Low|||||||||||||||||||

    I don't see the logic in that.
