Alternative for Autodiscover RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am developing an app which uses EWS to access a user's Exchange account. The app requires users to register during which I use Autodiscover to find out the EWS endpoint.

Unfortunately, some users are not able to register because Autodiscover is disabled in their servers.

Is there anyway else I can find the EWS endpoint?

  • You can search Active Directory for exchange servers with the CAS role http://gsexdev.blogspot.com.au/2009/12/using-adsi-to-find-your-cas-or-mailbox.html and then in general the EWS endpoint should be "https://casserver/ews/exchange.asmx"

It would be odd if they have disabled Autodiscover more likely they haven't set the DNS Records in this case you can still search Active directory for the SCP records and connect to Autodiscover this way.

  • Hi Glen,

Correct me if I am wrong, it is my understanding that I cannot access the Active Directory server outside the firewall (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124251.aspx "The Autodiscover service process for external access".)

Thanks for the tip on DNS Records.

  • Yeah if your external then AD won't be much good but pretty much if they haven't setup the Autodiscover Records in DNS then there would be no other way of reliably getting an EWS Endpoint (from a external perspective). The only ServerName that would be published externally would be via the MX record but this would only point to a Hub Role server and these days most people point their MX's to external filters like Postini etc.

    Cheers
