  • First steps, there are many to consider especially if new to program. You could take the easy way and just code but that for a beginner will lead to issues later on.

    • Determine which database type suits your needs e.g. SQL-Server (SQLEXPRESS), MS-Access, MySql etc.
    • Using database tools create the database, create the tables (this should be the sound of your requirements be a relational database). To get an idea of a database model see this page.
    • Determine project type e.g. Windows forms, WPF, Windows universal, ASP.NET etc.
    • Determine the best path for accessing data e.g. managed data provider (SqlClient, OleDb, Entity Framework)
    • Consider how you will write code for the database.
    • Write SQL statements in the database tool for which database is selected and make sure the work.
    • Write code for accessing data.
    • Write unit test for the above.
    • Make a decision where business logic resides.
    • Create your user interfaces.
