Connected Services Framework3.0 vs Windows Communication Framework 2008 RRS feed

  • Question

What is the difference between WCF 2008 and CSF 3.0 Sp1?

Is the WCF 2008 is the replacement of CSF 2.0 SP1 or vice versa?

  • There are different ways we can develop services like ASMX, WCF etc. If you have worked with WCF then you must be aware of why we should go for WCF for writing services.

On the other hand, CSF is an integrated, server-based packaged software product for BUILDING and MANAGING services using SOA principles. CSF provides a development environment and a runtime environment for creating new XML Web services, update existing ones, and aggregate services into a single distributed application.

CSF provides several services out of the box like Identity management, profile management, service discovery, health monitoring, usage, provisioning etc.

CSF comes with WES toolkit that you can use to develop services called WES (Well-enabled services).

In short, if you are targetting for SaaS or better say S+S business model, you will have to go for CSF well-enabled service.
