Database first in Asp.Net 5 (Entity Framework)

    Question

  • Did Microsoft kill the Database first model to work with database during developing? Does only the Code first model exist now or what? How can I crate web apps with my existing database?

  • Hi Arianit K,

Which version of Visual Studio are you using?

I also can't find the Database first model in Visual Studio 2015 when I try to add Entity Framework. It should be a designer for Asp.Net 5.

Please refer to following blog which introduce how to connect to existing database in ASP.NET 5 application. Hope that can help you.

If you have any idea for this new feature in ASP.NET 5, please post your idea to User Voice.

  • I'm using VS 2015... This option with all the commands in Package Manager then in Command Prompt takes long time instead of just right-click->add new item->ado.net data entity

  • Hi Arianit K,

I have vote the idea that you shared. And since the ASP.NET 5 is RC version, not a release version, if you have any idea for it, please feel free to post in User Voice.

    Best Regards,
    Weiwei
