Install Windows 8 SDK after installing OS?

Question
-
I have installed Windows 8 from the smaller x64 disc image (without developer tools) as I didn't have a spare dual layer disc around - is there any way of installing the tools / SDK separately?

The Windows Developer Preview SDK/WDK (x86 and x64) - (English) product that was posted on the MSDN Subscribers Download site has been removed. In order to develop applications using the Windows 8 SDK, please review the following post: “Which Windows 8 images and Visual Studio tools support Windows Metro style development and which support desktop development?”

Get the SDK/WDK from MSDN subscriber page:
en_windows_developer_preview_sdk_wdk_x86_x64_734757.zip
extract it and run the Windows Software Development Kit-x86_en-us.msi.

Is there anyway to do this without having an msdn subscription?

On Friday the public gets the VS11 Preview, so maybe the SDK is released, too.

When I run that installer, it starts up, gives me a small loading bar saying "Please wait while Windows configures Windows Software Development Kit", and then it just quits without installing anything...

Cound my voice as one to request this as well. I understand the necessity of going over the size of one DVD, but there needs either a seperate install of the developer tools or multi-disc version of the combined install.

(You can find ISO files at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/iso.)
