  • Question

  • I'm wondering what I should expect to see next Monday after the rollups rollup.  I have run some tests to cause failures in my application, and I have an unhandled exception handler in my code, which, if WER is available, it just adds our log zip file to the files to be uploaded, then it fails "normally", allowing the OS to see the error and collect stuff to send up to WER.

I have detailed the following scenario in hopes that someone can explain this behavior.

I'm using the following API call to add our file to the list of files WER should collect:

    WerRegisterFile( wsCompleteLogFilePath.c_str(), WerRegFileTypeOther, WER_FILE_ANONYMOUS_DATA );

    where wsCompleteLogFilePath = "c:\Logs\ExtremeZ-IP\ExtremeZ-IP 4_27_2010 at 12-57-09 EXCEPTION.TXT.zip"

The return code from Unhandled Exception Handler is EXCEPTION_CONTINUE_SEARCH, which allows the OS to capture the failure.
    And WerRegisterFile completes with S_OK.

On the "Problem Reports and Solutions" dialog, when "View Details" is displayed on the "Check for solutions to these problems", the details show the following:

    Product
    ExtremeZ-IP Service

    Problem
    Stopped working

    Date
    4/27/2010 1:09 PM

    Status
    Not Reported

    Version.txt
    AppCompat.txt
    memory.hdmp
    minidump.mdmp

Then after selecting the 3 items in the list and clicking the "Check for solutions" button, it says "Reporting Problem n of 25".
What does this mean?  I'm only reporting 3 problems, I thought.

Next, on the "Solve Problems on Your Computer" dialog, I see a red "New!" next to "Problem Report Information".

Clicking that takes me to our response and the opportunity to go to ouur website for an update.

Now if I click on the "View Problem History" thing on the left, it shows me that status of all the problems.  There are 33 in there, with 8 of them saying "More Information..." in the status column.  What does that mean?

If I click on one of those entries, it now shows the following:

    Extra information about the problem
    Bucket ID: 1832794594

I notice that it doesn't show any of the associated files, like our log file and the dump files.  What is the status of those?  Should they be sent to the WER website for our perusal by this Monday?

My question is what should I expect to see next Monday May 3, 2010 when I go look at bucket Id 1832794594?  I'm hoping that I see my log file up there.

Thanks for your time, and I hope someone responds to this post before Monday.

    Greg

  • Ok, the rollup has happened, and I still have no reports of problems with this version (my test version).  I see in the rollup that the file has been mapped now.  Woo hoo.  Where's the reports?  There are 0 reports of hits on this version.  Why not?

  • The hit date looks like it was after 4/25, our site data is currently up to 4/25, you only have 1 hit reported, it should show up after our daily job completes today.

  • It is now 5/5, and I don't see any new reports on the portal.  My app crashed at least 3 times on 4/27 and I submitted all of them.  Shouldn't I see at least 3 hits for this problem?

  • The only way for me to research this is to know what the bucketID's are you are sending, is it possible for you to look these up in the Application Event log?
