Error when publishing VS LS 2011 with SQL 2012 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I’ve created a Lightswitch application using Visula Studio 2011.  The application connects to a SQL Server 2012 database.

All works ok as a web app but I get the following error when trying to publish it.

An exception occurred when deploying the database for the application. Sql Server version not supported. 11.00.3128

  • It's as the error says: "Sql Server version not supported. 11.00.3128".

LightSwitch 2011 (not Visual Studio 2011, no such thing exists) can only deploy to SQL Server 2008 R2 or earlier.

  • BTW, you can download SQL Server 2008 R2 Express edition (FREE) here:

  • Hi, thanks for the replies.  Yes its Visual Studio 2010 with LS 2011 that I’m using.

I rebuilt the AssetRegister database on another SQL 2008 server and changed the connections etc.  This time when I publish I get this error message.

An exception occurred when deploying the database for the application. Failed to import target model AssetRegister. Detailed message The reverse engineering operation cannot continue because you do not have View Definition permission on the 'AssetRegister' database.

Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

  • Hi jez

"I rebuilt the AssetRegister database on another SQL 2008 server and changed the connections etc.  "

For this about deploying database with LightSwitch 2011 application, you should configure configure Your Web Site and database for Network access. you need to make sure the SQL Server that you want to deploy the LightSwitch application database (which stores your application data, user names, permissions and roles) is available on the network.

At the same time you can refer this blog below to configure a Web Server to host LightSwitch applications,

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/bethmassi/archive/2011/03/23/deployment-guide-how-to-configure-a-web-server-to-host-lightswitch-applications.aspx

    Best regards

  • Again, the error message tells you what's wrong: "you do not have View Definition permission on the 'AssetRegister' database." Make sure that the credentials you used when attaching to the database has this permission for this database.
