App Insights Alerts are Not Sent RRS feed

  • Question

  • From: Andy Ainsworth @heresandyboy via Twitter

    Hi since ~12:30pmGMT yesterday, after I modified 'email to' App Insights alerts are not being sent. I get healthy, not Alert.

    After some further investigation some of my alerts are staying in the Active state even though they should have resolved, looking at this particular one, the graph in the edit rule blade does not show any datapoints since just before 10am this morning, if it’s not collecting data on the current state of server exceptions then the alert can't resolve. Usually this graph will show up points on the graph to 'now', 14:35 at time of screenshot. I know by looking at the exceptions thrown by this API today there have been no exceptions since the one shown, the threshold is 45 minutes so this should have resolved ages ago. The orange! icon is still there on the Alert Rules pane.

    Just so you know the problem started after I went through every one of my alerts (at least 30 of them) one by one yesterday and manually removed one of two email address from the 'Additional administrator email(s)' box.

    Thanks,

    @AzureSupport

  • Hi Dani,

    We had a bug in alert processing where alerts based on server exceptions were not getting resolved. It's fixed now. Please let us know if you still see issues.

  • I am having a very similar issue. Though I didn't modify the emails. It is also happening on all my application insights. For a while I was not even getting the healthy alert.

    Not sure if an issue in there could cause it, though they all seem resolved.

  • My alerts are still completely unreliable. The same alerts I have had in place for over a year in many cases. I must have about 30 alerts configured.

    The ones that are not working are occasionally sending me Healthy emails but there was no corresponding Alert email proceeding it.

    When I look in the Edit Rule blade for the ones that are not working, the graph at the top is always hours out of date, as if they have stopped collecting data. If I delete one that is not working and re-create it, its obvious that it did not create a new one its just restored the broken one as the alert state is immediately the same and the graph has not changed.

    I've had some luck deleting an alert, recreating it with a different name and different threshold say changing from 1 hour to 45 minutes instead, the alert started working. But I have two where I have done this and the alerts still do not trigger.

    This is becoming an operational nightmare as I am having to manually check all of our app insights constantly throughout the day.

    One additional problem I have just noticed is that if I have created an alert with a threshold greater than one hour, when I modify the alert, the Condition box is empty, and there is no drop down selection for anything greater than one hour!

    Please please please get Alerts fixed and in a reliable state.
