  • Mobile Apps provides many of the same functionalities as mobile services. It provides a .NET backend (so does Mobile Services) with authentication, push notifications and SQL data offline sync capabilities (just like Mobile Services).

However, Azure App Service Mobile Apps is also a service on top of web apps, so you get all the great functionality of Azure App Service Web Apps.  Some of the things I think are great about this (and are not available in Mobile Services):

    • Full source control integration with automated deployment via VSO, GitHub and others
    • Operational Insights and better monitoring via App Insights
    • Staging slots - allowing you to do staged roll outs
    • Running a web site to complement your mobile site
    • VPN support / Hybrid Connections
    • Back up for your backend

In short, if you are looking to implement a mobile backend right now, you should be looking at Azure App Service Mobile Apps in the majority of cases.
