  • Hi,

Sorry your question is a bit confusion. You want to install  SQL Server 2012 in a WS2012R2 machine whit 2016?
Server ? Yes it is possible.

  • SQL Server 2012 is supported on Windows Server 2012 R2, however, according to documentation, it does not appear to be supported on Windows Server 2016 as of yet:

Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2012

  • Please see " Principal Editions of SQL Server 2012":

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506%28v=sql.110%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

SQL Server 2012 was released before Windows Server 2016, so it is not officially supported. However it may still work.

Only SQL Server 2014 and 2016 officially support running on Windows Server 2016.

  • The MSDN documentation for SQL Server 2012, Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2012, is incorrect.

SQL Server 2012 actually IS supported on Windows Server 2016, please see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2681562/using-sql-server-in-windows-8-and-later-versions-of-windows-operating-system for which versions of SQL Server are supported on various versions of Windows and Windows Server.
