playing unsupported media in windows store application

    Question

  • its quite sad that windows store applications cant play FLAC or my favorite lossy musepack. So is there any method to pass transcoded audio (in pcm) directly into supported output without writing on disc?

as i found ffmpeg is restricted in store? so can i use separate decoding libraries, like libFLAC or something else?

  • You can write and include custom codec support with your ppm. I am not aware of any publicly available FLAC versions, and I don't know how difficult it would be to port libFLAC.

If you can transcode to PCM or to other supported formats then you shouldn't have trouble playing them. The hard part is the transcoding.

Take a look at the Media extensions sample or how to expose the codec to the media system.
