DB-LIbrary and SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition 64bit RRS feed

  • Question

  • Currently we have applications that use DB-Library version 7.00.839 (shipped with SQL Server 7.0). So far this version of DB-Library is working with SQL server 23005 Enterprise Edition.

We are in the planning process for upgrading to SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition R2 64bit version.

According to MIcrosoft books online it is still works in SQL Server 2008 Enteroprise Edition 32 bit version.

Questions is: Does the DB-Library version 7.00.839 works with SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition R2 64bit version?

    Thanks in advance,

Could someone please let me know?

  • We still support DBLib connections but I don't think we ship the DB Lib DLLs with 2008. IIRC, last version we shipped NTWDBLIB.DLL was back in 2000.

There is no 64 bit version of DB-Libaray and it has not been updated since SQL 6.5.

However, DB-Libarary is a client API and assuming your application is a 32 bit application (most likley as  it uses DB-Library for database connectivity which has not beed updated since SQL 6.5) it does work with x64 SQL Server 2008 enterprise edition.

We have power builder application that connects to x64 SQL Server 2008 using DBLib.

  • Hello,

DB-Library is still supported on SQL Server 2008 R2. When you select to install client tools, network libraries for DB-Library are installed or you can install them from the SQL Server 7 media.

    Hope this helps.
