FIMSynchronizationService does not start

Question

No matter what credentials I give this service it does not start.

The error in the event viewer is mostly about The system cannot find the file specified but I can't figure out which files are not found. Is there a way to reinstall it?

Any chance you have replicated the exact process as written here? I have used this process time and again and UPS provisioning has been successfully completed.

Hi Ofer Gal,

 

Did you start the user profile service synchronization service under System Setting-Services on Server. If not, please start this service, system will start the following FIM services during it start the user profile service synchronization service.

 

·         FIMService

·         FIMSynchronizationService

 

Firstly, check whether you use a farm account to start the user profile service synchronization service, if not, please use a farm account.

 

Secondly, check whether the farm account is belonged to local administrator group. If you install SharePoint on a domain controller, you need add the farm account into builtin administrators.

I have been fighting something similar... What I did was:

• On the SharePoint Server: CD %ProgramFiles%/Microsoft Office Servers
• Right click on the directory 14.0
• Select Properties
• Select Security
• My system did not have "Network Service" granted any privs
• Granted Read & Execute to "Network Service"

That seemed to fix my issues.

And if it is not a Domain Controller, then what should you do? I am having the same problem as Ofer Gal and no matter what I do, I cannot make the FIM services start on my server.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Getting this same error... HELP!!! 

I have looked at a number of things on this page already and still have the same issue. Any help GREATLY appreciated.
