VS extension : to suggest usage of c# functions with examples RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I used have a VS extension that suggests usage of the c# methods with example from stackoverflow or github, on mouse over the intellisense, can some one tell the name of that extension or link to download.

    Thanks in advance.

  • You're referring most likely to Intellicode which pulled common examples from external sources. That ships as part of VS starting with 2019 and therefore doesn't need to be installed anymore. Furthermore it now supports looking at your code as well. Refer to these blog articles.

  • Hi CoolDadTx,

Thanks for the reply, i checked intellicode and enabled as suggested in the links, but I'm not able to see the sample codes that shows as suggestion. Its shows just one line about the method but no information about its parameters, previously it used to show multiple lines of code.

any suggestion here will be great help.

    Thanks,

  • I cannot remember the name of the extension before it got rebranded but I do recall the feature you mentioned where it could pull up example usage from SO and other sites. However that feature didn't make it into the current (preview) version. I don't know for certain but I suspect that functionality has mostly been consumed by the Roslyn quick actions and other features that are already in VS. If you refer to the documentation for Intellicode you can see mentions of it being able to add fixes and quick actions based upon your selection.

You might want to post this question in the Intellicode Q&A section on the marketplace and see what they say about it.
