Changing Password in SQL 2005 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to change my SQL ID (SQL server authentication) but I am getting the error below:

    Msg 15115, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

Password validation failed. The password cannot be used at this time.

I tried using the scripts below:
    exec sp_password '<old>, '<new>' and sp_password '<old>, '<new>', '<login name>'

    Both didn't worked. Please advice.

  • Hi,

    Try this

ALTER LOGIN Victoria WITH PASSWORD = 'B3r1000d#2-36'; GO ALTER LOGIN Victoria WITH PASSWORD = 'V1cteAmanti55imE' OLD_PASSWORD = 'B3r1000d#2-36'; GO

  • Since you are using SQL Server 2005, it's time to use 'ALTER LOGIN' instead of sp_password. Check the password complexity.

Turn off the password complexity rule, for example. sp_password won't allow to do that.

Here is the syntax for ALTER LOGIN:
