Windows CE 5 - fixed IP - DNS lookup not working RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have been struggling with this for days. I hope some one can give me a hint...

I have a Windows CE 5 image that I have developed my self.

When configured to use DHCP assigned IP address everything works fine.

But when assigning a fixed IP, gateway and DNS, it seems like the DNS lookup fails.

    E.g. ping ping microsoft.com

    returns: Bad IP address (null).

The DNS server is 8.8.8.8 (google). Please see ipconfig output below.

When looking in WireShark the DNS address is changed to 8.8.8.0 and there is obviously not reply.

    641132 1846.044217 192.168.1.7 8.8.8.0 DNS Standard query 0x1053  A microsoft.com

    642398 1849.067515 192.168.1.7 8.8.8.0 DNS Standard query 0x1053  A microsoft.com.home

    ipconfig /all returns this:

    Windows IP configuration

    Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
             IP Address ........ : 192.168.1.7
             Subnet Mask ....... : 255.255.0.0
             Default Gateway ... : 192.168.1.1
             Adapter Name ...... : DM9ISA1
             Description ....... : DM9ISA1
             Adapter Index ..... : 262146
             Address............ : 00 11 0f 01 ba 20
             DHCP Enabled....... : NO

             Host name.......... : WindowsCE
             Domain Name........ : home
             DNS Servers........ : 8.8.8.8
                                   8.8.4.4
             NODETYPE........... :  8        Routing Enabled.... :  NO
             Proxy Enabled...... :  NO

Does anyone have an idea about what could cause this?

    Kind regards

    Jes Holm
