Windows Embedded CE 6.0 and SQL Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have windows Embedded CE6.0 installed on xp. I am trying to develop a very simple device application to select data from table and display in drop down. My sql2005 Database is on some remote location which having windows 2003 os.(not embedded) When I am trying to connect to database it is raising below error

    Specified SQL server not found:ServerName

I do not have installed any instance of sql server on embedded os. Do I need to install any compact edition of sql to get connected?

When I am trying the same thing from a windows form application it is working fine.

    Please help!

  • No you don't need SQL Server CE, but you do need the SQL Server client .NET library. I presume that you have that, but you should show your code for establishing the SQL Server connection. If your connection string is correct and if you have network connectivity to the server and if the server's surface area allows connection from your device then it will work.
