Commercial license using OpenNI RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I have a legal question about releasing commercial software using the new Kinect 4 Windows sensor but using OpenNI (currently does not work, hopefully will soon). Is that allowed?

  • I believe the commercial license is for the Kinect SDK itself rather than for the hardware, so yes you can (if, practically speaking, you could use OpenNI with K4W).

A nice way to think of it is that you can indeed use OpenNI with Kinect4Windows de jure, but not de facto.

  • As a Software Engineer, this is way out of my realm, so I have put the question to the right people but I don't have anything to post at this time. Sorry for the delay.
