so many links are broken RRS feed

  • Question

  • This is awful ...

Every time I try to use the MSDN documentation, I don't get very far in my searching before links start to break.  Often they are trying to refer to the Platform SDK documentation.

    Today's batch ..

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb774736(VS.80).aspx
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb774739(VS.80).aspx
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb774732(VS.80).aspx

All from pages that came up in a search for List Control Styles in MFC.

I could keep going but I've decided to stop using MSDN for this particular problem -- it's taking too long because of all the broken links.

  • I know this can be frustrating.  Can you help me figure this out?

What page did you come from to find these?  I am trying to find out how you arrived at these URLs.

    Thanks,
    Clayton

  • With more investigation, it looks like the content moved (changed versions) and the index your search engine is using has not updated just yet.  If you remove the (VS.80), you will see the content -> http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb774736.aspx.

The search engines should get updated over the next 30 days or so.

Shouldn't content links get refreshed when the content moves, and not months later?
