How to Setup Cross Site LookUp Columns RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I face a case in which I have to set up relations between SharePoint lists located in different websites. I'm developing on a SharePoint 2010 Std platform. I can't move the lists themselves because of existing programs referencing them.

    Currently I see three options:
    - Create a standard Lookup Column, after with SharePointManager.exe change the SchemaXML and set manually the webID, ListID, FieldID of the pointed column. Pros: it seems to work. Cons:  Require a lot of steps to set up the lookup.

    - Use a free custom column extending the lookup column functionality. I saw a custom column on codeplex doing the job :   http://filteredlookup.codeplex.com/ But it seems that it’s not followed by anyone.

    - Use a SharePoint solution sold by a third Party. I saw this kind of solutions:
    http://store.bamboosolutions.com/sharepoint-lookup-selector.aspx
    http://www.boostsolutions.com/Cross-SiteLookup.html

What is the best approach to create lookup columns between lists located at different sites in the same site collection?

    Thanks for the replies
