How to communicate with PCs and Mobile PCs in the network? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a server client application. The server is an IBM AIX server and the clients are Windows XP - 7 and Windows Mobile devices.

The clients want to have a button to run a command to logout all the running sessions on PCs and PDAs.

How can i dispatch such a message to all the consumers of the server application? I thought about creating a TCP server application for PCs and PDAs, but then how will i connect to all by their IP addresses when DHCP always assigns a new one. I am not sure if i can dispatch a message based on a MAC address. My network administrator told me that i can not lookup an IP address by a MAC address when the network is divided to subnetworks.

I am not sure if i posted this to the right forum. Please help.

    Thanks in advance,

  • I think you need to poll something or other on the server from the client.  Presumably your Win Mo devices are sometimes going to be logged on but unable to get a signal to the server.

  • How about registering all the PDAs to the client's active directory domain?
