PowerPoint 2003 Binary Tag RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a PPT file with no slides thought it has 1 Slide Master, 1 Handout Master, and 1 Notes Master. the file is over 24MB.  I opened the file in PowerPoint 2003 and saved it for PowerPoint 2007.  When this occurred, a message box appeared indicating: "your presentation contains one or more of the following: -Binary Tags, -Hyperlinks on diagrams   These items cannot be saved in the PowerPoint 2007 XML file format..."

    How does one find Binary Tags and/or Hyperlinks in a file with no presentation slides?  How does one delete them? How does one find their names?

    I know 3 tags exist: ActivePresentation.Tags.Count.  and the tags cannot be deleted.

    Public Sub Test()
      Dim p As PowerPoint.Presentation
      Set p = ActivePresentation
      Dim i As Integer
      For i = 1 To ActivePresentation.Tags.Count
        Debug.Print i & vbTab & p.Tags.Name(i) & vbTab & p.Tags.Value(i)
        p.Tags.Delete p.Tags.Name(i)
      Next i
    End Sub

    Thanks for your help

  • Hi Rogge

    Have you tried asking this of the PowerPoint specialists who congregate on the "Answers" site? I'd expect they'd know best what kinds of "gotchas" can occur when you try to save PowerPoint files to the new file format and how to work around them:

  • Cindy,

    I will post it in Answers.

    I wasn't clear in my description or question.  The file is 24MB and I want to reduce the size using only PowerPoint 2003.  I can't find the objects that are bloating the file.
