Azure databricks Service creation

    Question

  • Hi,

We are currently setting up Azure environment and various components in our company with certain standard naming conventions. While creating Azure Databricks workspace we have noticed that some additional components get created which are

Managed resource Group, Storage Account, Network Security Group and Virtual Network. All these components are getting created with some system generated names based on parent databricks workspace name.

While we found the way to control Managed resource group name by creating databricks workspace using power shell. How can we control other components ? Example below  -

    $ResourceGroupName = "rg-data-npe-spark"
    $ManagedResourceGroupName = "rg-managed-data-npe-spark"
    $WorkspaceName = "dbkws-data-dev1-eng-spark"
    $Location = "australiaeast"

    Thanks,

    Sachin

  • Hi Pradeep,

Thanks for the forum URL. I have already gone through that and with powershell we could control Managed resource group name. What we were interested was to also control virtual network and Network security group names which are system generated under databricks workspace.

We also raised case with MS support and they confirmed that above components cannot be renamed, also they suggested to leave it to default names as in past they have handled tickets, where in databricks workspace deletion could not delete the actual customized components under it

    Cheers,

    Sachin

  • Hi Sachin,

Azure portal does not allow you to control this name, the underlying REST API does. So, with Azure PowerShell magic we can create an instance and set both names.

For more details, refer “Controlling the Databricks Resource Group Name”, which addresses similar issue.

    Hope this helps.
