Getting error : "undefined:'map' is null or not an object and VE_MapDispatch_SymbolLib is null or not an object RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm developing a winform app with Virtual Earth(version 6.2) integrated (webbrowser control, .NET). I am trying to plot locations(returned by our backend service) on map(in the form of pushpins). but sometimes I am getting  following error:

"undefined:'map' is null or not an object  and VE_MapDispatch_SymbolLib is null or not an object.

    Thanks

  • Virtual Earth 6.2 was deprecated about 6 years ago and redirects to v6.3 which is now nearing end of life and the documentation was taken offline a while ago. Don't use that map control. There are several other better options. Since you are working with WinForms, why not use the Bing Maps WPF control, it can be used in a WinForm app and you can code using .NET which makes things easier. Here is a blog post on how to do this:

If you want to use JavaScript, you can use the Bing Maps V7 map control which is the most widely used Virtual Earth/Bing Maps map control. You can find information on this map control here:

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg427610.aspx

Here is the interactive SDK for the Bing Maps V7 control:

Note, Virtual Earth was renamed as Bing Maps in 2009, incase there is any confusion over the naming.
