Azure File and geo-replication question RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm currently working on a project where we need to have access to big files (<g class="gr_ gr_52 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" data-gr-id="52" id="52">autocad</g> format) across the globe.

Autocad files are created in a particular country (i.e. China) and we want to provide a read or even write access to this file from Brazil for example.

We are thinking of using Azure files with Geo-replication in order to provide a file share visible for all countries and where all files will be written. Thanks to the geo-replication, files will be copied to multiple regions (Asia -> Brazil for example) and when a Brazilian use will try to open the file, he will retrieve it from the Brazil region and not for the China region.

    Am I right?

  • Azure file share doesn't have RA-GRS redundancy at this time.

For more information about RA-GRS redundancy refer the below documentation:

  • Yes you are right, he will retrieve the file where user is located in which region.

Can you please tell us what are you trying to accomplish so we can help you

  • Hi Kapil, I tried to explain in my question what I'm trying to achieve, maybe it is not clear?

  • The Azure Storage Replication is mainly for data redundancy, but not for the scenario you are looking for. With RA-GRS replication you can only read the data in secondary data center, but you can’t write data to the storage account.
