Regarding Data transfer charges RRS feed

  • Question

    • Pricing page on https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/data-factory/ states...

    • Second, you may incur data transfer charges, which will show up as a separate outbound data transfer line item on your bill. Outbound data transfer charges are applied when data is moved between different zones.

Can someone please clarify. Here, what does different zones mean? Different regions? On-premises to Cloud?

  • Hi Aaron,

    Apologies for the late response.

Here outbound data transfer refers to data being moved out of Azure data centers being described here: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/data-transfers/.  There are two categories where outbound data transfer changes may apply:

    (1) copying data between two cloud data stores.  For example, if you copy from Azure Storage Blob in North Europe to Azure Storage Blob in West US, you will be charged outbound data transfer out of North Europe.

    (2) copying data from a cloud data store to an on-premises data store.  For example, if you copy from Azure Storage Blob in North Europe to an on-premises SQL Server, you will be charged outbound data transfer out of North Europe.

    Hope that helps.

    Shirley
