storing diaeresis characters RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it safe to store diaeresis characters like two dots over a letter in sql server. Nvarchar allows those characters. But is it safe?

    Thanks

  • What do you mean by "safe" or "issues using such characters"?

If you are going to support multiple languages, there are many considerations when using the data.  The database does not care what you put in the field.

  • The Latin character set supports this already. There is no need to use Unicode.

  • Thanks for the reply Tom. The column has nvarchar type for a different reason. I see these letters already in the database. But would there be any issues using such characters?

    Thanks
