Mac with Windows Virtual Machine Licensing RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I have a situation where several developers have Mac's and want to set up a Windows VM on the Mac  to use Visual Studio, now I am under the impression that each Mac has to have a separate Windows license in order for them to do this and that it's not covered under MSDN. That's the way I have read it on the MSDN white paper (link below)

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/confirmation.aspx?id=13350  (bottom of page 18)

Please can you clarify if a separate windows license is required or if a Windows MSDN license will cover it?

    Thanks

    C

  • What part of the licensing whitepaper gave you that impression Chris?

Its been a week, so I'm marking this as answered.  If you come back, please unmark this and let me know your thoughts.

MSDN is a per-user license, not a per-device license.  If your developers are all MSDN Subscribers, and they're complying with other terms of MSDN (dev/test/etc. only), seems like it might be covered, although I'd like to know what gave you that impression from the licensing paper, thus my question.

    Thanks,
    Mike
