How to un-install Maganement studio?

    Question

  • Server 2012R2 Std

I installed management studio for server 2008R2 and it necessary components. I found out that is was the wrong version, I was looking for studio 2015.

How do I correctly un-install this product set?

    Thanks

  • For the future, here is the un-install sequence:

    1. Visual Basic Tools
    2. SQL Server 2008R2, It in-installs all but the below
    3. SQL Server 2008R2 Native client
    4. Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2

  • Hello John,

You can uninstall it as every Windows application, via "Control Panel" => "Add/Remove Program"

  • I see more than Studio. Below is my Uninstall panel. The items added on 12/23 need to be removed. Do I do that in any sequence?

    Thanks

  • You installed the database engine, which brought the SSMS with it.  They were not separate until SQL 2016.

There is no Mgmt Studio or SQL 2015.   There IS Visual Studio 2015....

what are you hoping to have installed at the end of this process?

  • Regarding, the new version of SSMS, you should install the latest version.  The current generally available release is a free download from https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt238290.aspx and can be used against older SQL Server versions.

  • Hello,

To uninstall SSMS on SQL 2008 R2, you can try running the following command:

    setup.exe /ACTION=UNINSTALL /FEATURES=Tools

    Hope this helps.

  • Here is my question:

Do I un-install the 12/23 programs one-at-a time and in what order.

I will install SMSS ( I have downloaded the installer). I need it to diagnose a WSUS database re-index script (another thread).

  • Order should not matter...if it does it will tell you as you go.
