AD Group Members cannot login to SQL Server 2012 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello-

I would like to give an AD group complete control to one of our 2012 SQL servers. Although I am able to add the group to SQL members of the group cannot login. If I add them explicitly to SQL they can log in. We have groups working in SQL 2008R2 but not in SQL 2012 out of the box. Any ideas?

  • You can add AD groups to SQL server 2012. I do not think it should create any issue.

Share the error message recorded in SQL server error log for login failure for group members.

  • Can you be a little more specific. When you say "I am able to add the group to SQL" does that mean that you created a Windows Authentication login for the Windows group, on that instance of SQL Server and made that login a member of the sysadmin fixed server role? (Which would be the correct thing to do.) Or did you do something different?
