SoftAP in WEC7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Whether it is possible to have/develop SoftAP feature with WEC7 ?? or anyone implemented it already ??

In Windows7 we can use commands like netsh and all which is not present in WEC7 AFAIK. Also somewhere I read like SoftAP is possible with and after NDIS6.2.

    Any help is appreciated.

  • Compact 7 has no built-in support for Wi-Fi AP. These fearures have been removed from the OS starting with CE 6.

If you want to build an AP using Compact 7, you'll have to implement the enire stack yourself.

  • Thanx Michael,  answer satisfied my question but not me as its not possible easily..

Any chance/support that MS may provide this feature for WEC7? or any stack reference ?

one more thing, what about WiFi Direct ?? even it requires SoftAP feature to be available ?

  • I think it unlikely that MS would remove the function in 7 and then later put it back, especially since CE7 is not even current. There might be a 0.00001% chance that someone else would do it but I'd look elsewhere.

  • Hi Paul, so you mean that it is better to look into other options than to develop SoftAP/WiFi direct support in WEC7 ?

I had seen some msdn page how to configure SoftAP in Wince 5. But for later versions, there is no reference or any information. Also saw information like SoftAP support is possible in and after NDIS6.2. So,

    > Is it possible by any chance I can integrate ndis6.2 stack to WEC7 !?!

    > why it is removed in the latest version of WEC ?

No, integrating NDIS 6.2 in Compact 7 is something only Microsoft could do.

    > why it is removed in the latest version of WEC ?
SoftAP support has been removed from CE 6 and onwards.
We can only speculate on the reasons why this feature has been removed. One reason might be lack of customer demand.

  • As mentioned by Michael its possible and a  little detailed description is at anothrer post of mine https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/9cd63fee-7159-457c-bea0-3852d7410b45/windows-ce-6-wireless-access-point. Believe me , i was wondering its not possible if OS doesnt provide a certain feature under windows , but you wouldn't after trying many hacks , after all Windows is one another OS(slightly closed).

  • Despite what you are reading here it is possible to do a SoftAP under WEC6 or WEC7. I have done it using the Marvell SDIO wifi part. It involves loading a special set of microcode, different from the standard station (STA) microcode. I wrote a managed wrapper to set various AP parameters. I must admit it was not easy and I would not recommend it for the novice.

  • Hi Dave,

Would you be open to discussing your SoftAP solution?

If I looks like I could use it as a base for implementing a similar thing in my WinCE6 platform I would be happy to pay something reasonable for your time and/or source.

    Thanks.

  • Dear Dave,

Where can I found information about this ?

Did you write something about it? can you share it ?

    Thanks in advance

It has been at least a couple of years since Dave spent any time on this forum, so it is possible, but unlikely that you will receive a response.

  • Vspir, Bruce,

We came to know from known source that SoftAP stack in WEC7 is developed by Intelligraphics. Please contact www.intelligraphics.com, if you are still looking SoftAP Stack in WEC7.
